Sweet Chili Sauce
My name is Frankie and I’m a “sauce-a-holic” 🥣!
It seems there’s never enough sauce for recipes. I have one for this, another for that, one that pairs well with a particular dish, and so on. In the past, I’ve been sharing many of them; Citrus Cranberry, Maltaise, Tartar, Enchilada, Iguana’s Mushroom 🍄, Marinara, Indonesian Peanut, etc.
There’s another one that I really enjoy because it’s sweet and tangy with a little hint of spice in the background and it’s my Sweet Chili Sauce! This is an amazing recipe! It’s quick ⏳ to make plus so versatile. It tastes better and healthier than the ones from the store.
I like to use this condiment for many of my recipes like Sweet & Sour Pineapple Pork, Triple Chili Sauce for my wings, Korean Meatballs 🧆, Sweet Chili Chicken Bites, Vietnamese Summer Rolls, Chinese 5 Spice Spare Ribs, and others.
This is an amazing dipping sauce when making Egg Rolls, Chicken Nuggets, Fried Calamari 🦑, Mozzarella Sticks, etc.
Like any sauce recipe, this one is pretty straight forward. With a well-balanced mix of ingredients, this is a homemade condiment recipe that is nice to have on hand. The beauty of making 👩🍳👨🍳 this Sweet Chili Sauce from scratch is you can adjust it to your liking and making it either milder or spicier. Also, it’s free of preservatives and honestly, tastes much better than the commercial ones.

Sweet Chili Sauce

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/3 cup rice vinegar
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp. ketchup
- 1/2 tbsp. minced ginger
- 1 tsp. pressed garlic
- 1 1/2 tsp. sambal oelek
- 2 drops red food coloring see Recipe
- 1 1/2 tbsp. cornstarch (mixed with 1/3 cup cold water)
Directions
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add water, rice vinegar, granulated sugar, ketchup, minced ginger, pressed garlic, and sambal oelek. Stir until everything is well combined and bring the mixture to a simmer.
- While it’s warming up, add a couple drops of food coloring. When it starts simmering, cook for 5 minutes.
- When time is up, add the cornstarch mixture and stir very well until the sauce thickens, about 45 seconds.
- Remove from the heat and let the sauce cool off before proceeding with your recipe.
