Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/3 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp. ketchup
  • 1/2 tbsp. minced ginger
  • 1 tsp. pressed garlic
  • 1 1/2 tsp. sambal oelek
  • 2 drops red food coloring see Recipe
  • 1 1/2 tbsp. cornstarch (mixed with 1/3 cup cold water)

Directions

  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add water, rice vinegar, granulated sugar, ketchup, minced ginger, pressed garlic, and sambal oelek. Stir until everything is well combined and bring the mixture to a simmer.
  • While it’s warming up, add a couple drops of food coloring. When it starts simmering, cook for 5 minutes.
  • When time is up, add the cornstarch mixture and stir very well until the sauce thickens, about 45 seconds.
  • Remove from the heat and let the sauce cool off before proceeding with your recipe.
