Matcha Cheesecake
St. Patrick’s Day 🍀 is not just a party or drinking occasion although it fits very well in the program! This is a Christian religious celebration in honor of the death of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland falling each year on March 17th. It’s a public holiday for, obviously Ireland and surprisingly Canada 🍁. If you are living in Newfoundland and Labrador, it’s also a holiday for you guys! Now for the rest of the country, we treat it as a holiday but we still have to go to work… oh well!
Alright, enough with all the info and let’s get on with what we like to do… enjoy the celebration! Many cities around the world like to make this event special. There are others who go far beyond. Here’s my personal list (it’s okay if you don’t agree with my choices… just have a green beer 🍺) and the reason why I picked them…
Let’s first mention the city where it all started… Dublin. Its festival lasts 4 days with street performances 🤹♂️, pub events, live music and, on that special St Patrick’s Day, its amazing parade! Now, the Irish really know how to throw a party… come on, 4 days, I love these guys! This is sooo on my bucket list!
Another very interesting city in my opinion is not far behind Dublin and it’s Chicago. The party 🎇✨ always starts on a Saturday (more convenient than during the week so the majority of partiers won’t call in sick the next day) and the city dyes the Chicago River a bright emerald green color. Don’t panic! Breathe in & breathe out… this dye is EPA-approved – I know, what a relief! Another city where there’s some green water is in Savannah, Georgia which apparently has the second largest parade in the world. The route takes 3 hours and goes thru the Historic District where the fountains spew the formal green color of the celebration!
Boston is another city 🌆 on my list for a St Patrick’s Day party escape as the state of Massachusetts has the highest Irish population in the U.S.A. If you are fine with bagpipes, the sound is what makes everything start. Although this musical instrument is very cultural, some of you may not enjoy it that much. There are a few famous quotes that reveal either side of the coin. You either like them or hate them… there’s no other option.
Now if you want to be in the biggest Irish pub in the world, go to London 💂♂️ to The Porterhouse in Covent Garden. Of course, get there super early because even with its 3 levels and extended space, this pub will fill up pretty fast as it is located right around the corner from Trafalgar Square where the party is.
Here at Club Foody, we also like to do things right on St Patrick’s Day. I turn a cheesecake green! “Whoop-dee-doo” you say! At least, I get into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit in my own little way! My Matcha Cheesecake 🍰 is actually quite fun and different… never saw or ate a green cheesecake until I decided to create this recipe.
The matcha powder I use for this dessert recipe is by Sencha® Naturals. I love their products but if you already have your favorite matcha powder, by all means use yours. To make the Matcha Cheesecake pop out more, I pour the mixture into my Chocolate Honey Graham Cracker Pie Crust. The two actually combine together quite well. Who knew matcha 🍵 and chocolate 🍫 would be such a delicious combination!
There will be a lot of parties 🥳 going on this weekend and if you are totally into this event and are hosting a dinner party then this Matcha Cheesecake is the perfect dessert to make!
Bon Appétit!🍽

Ingredients
- 2 packages (16 ounces) cream cheese, room temperature
- 2 tbsp. milk
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large free-run eggs, beaten until foamy
- 3 tbsp. warm 35% heavy cream, or more if needed
- 2 tbsp. Japanese Matcha Green Tea powder
- 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 1 (9-inch) Chocolate Honey Graham Cracker Pie Crust see Recipe
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350ºF.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine cream cheese and milk. Using the paddle attachment, process the mixture on speed 3 until smooth, about 2 minutes. Add sugar and process until creamy. Add eggs and continue mixing until well incorporated.
- In a small bowl, combine warm heavy cream and matcha powder; stir until there are no lumps in it.
- Add tea mixture to cream cheese mixture along with vanilla; process until well blended.
- Pour mixture into the prepared pie crust and transfer to the preheated oven; bake for 30-35 minutes or until the center is almost set (jiggles a little when gently shaken).
- Turn the temperature off and leave the cake in with the door closed for 2 hours.
- With the door ajar, leave it for another hour.
- Remove from the oven and slice a knife around the pan to release and prevent it from cracking; cool completely.
- Cover with plastic wrap and transfer to the refrigerator for 12 to 24 hours before slicing.
