This weekend is Super Bowl 🏈! Many will gather to watch the game. You’ll either be tailgating, going out to your favorite sports bar or staying at home. If you’re like us and hosting a party, you want to have food that will please your friends!

With over 60 recipes on the website, there’s a vast variety of them to choose from. It can be pepperoni pizza 🍕, pork ribs, six layer chip dip, chicken wings, burgers, salsa, etc. Another one that is perfect for this event is hot dogs but not just any kind… Chili Dogs!

Chili is a popular item to make on Super Bowl weekend. Now, when it’s combined with steamed hot dogs 🌭, it’s amazing! These are a great crowd pleaser. With a bold and tasty chili along with your favorite toppings, this is an amazing finger food for this sporting event.

It takes over 2 hours to make it but it’s so worth it! First, the onions are seasoned with salt and quickly sautéed. It’s important to add salt 🧂 because it helps to draw out water from the onions which causes them to sweat and soften. This procedure is called osmosis.

Then comes the rest of the veggies. There are a couple tablespoons of jalapeño peppers that goes in which gives just enough zip to this Chili Dogs recipe. Unless you really want it spicier 🧯, double the amount but if you’re serving them to a bunch of people, make sure everyone is okay with heat tolerance.

After the meat is cooked, the rest goes in. There’s tomato paste, diced tomatoes 🍅 but you can you’re your own tomates concassées if you prefer, tomato sauce although you can use my marinara sauce, and the seasonings.

What takes time is reducing the sauce to a nice thickness. That takes about 2 hours ⏰. The first hour, stir occasionally but for the last one, you’ll have to stir frequently. As it reduces considerably, the chances of sticking to the bottom is greater plus it might burn and we don’t want that to happen.

These Chili Dogs are undeniably a great food item to serve to your buddies! Spoon a generous amount of sauce on top of steamed hot dogs before garnishing with red or white chopped onions and sharp Cheddar cheese 🧀… it’s yummy and a bit messy! Here are a couple more similar recipes to try… Michigan Hot Dogs and Coney Island.
