Mexico has a special place in David’s and my heart. We met wonderful people from across Canada who became great friends, we got married there 💍, and it’s a place where we just relax and enjoy ourselves. As a foody, Mexican cuisine is amazing and that includes drinks and beverages.

Margaritas are probably the first thing most people associate with the country but there are a few more besides that. I think of Michelada, Torito, Rompope, Curado, Matador, Colonche, and others including this one… Paloma Cocktail!

Similar to Greyhound and Cantarito cocktails, this is one of the most refreshing tequila drinks to sip on a hot summer day 🌞! It’s super quick and easy to make. With freshly squeezed grapefruit and lime juice along with carbonated citrus soda, this Mexican beverage is perfect for the season…

For the glass rims, there’s an ingredient I like to use and it’s Tajín. This Mexican condiment is a must have! It’s a blend of ground chili peppers, citrus and, sea salt. Its color and ingredients might sound spicy but in fact, it’s not. I’d say it’s warm with some personality to it.

Instead of using plain Jane salt 🧂, use Tajín instead. It’s a great enhancer for meat, poultry, fish, vegetables, and fruits. Use some on fries 🍟, onion rings, pasta salad, guacamole, or side dish like my Jicama Mango Pepper Salad. Sprinkle some on popcorn or chocolate. Used as a rimmer in my version of Paloma Cocktail, do the same for your Bloody Caesar or add a couple dashes in your Lime Margarita or Michelada.

After the mix is poured into the prepared glasses, there’s a few options to choose from. I prefer mine topped with carbonated citrus soda like Squirt, Sprite or 7Up. Another way to go is to use sparkling water such as San Pellegrino, Topo Chico, Perrier, etc.

Unless your grapefruit juice is extremely sweet, adding a little agave nectar will help brighten up the taste. Another option is to use simple syrup. I certainly don’t recommend granulated sugar as it won’t dissolve.

With beautiful notes of citrus, this Paloma Cocktail 🍹 is perfect to enjoy on a hot summer day. It’s extremely easy to make and a great choice to quench your thirst! Serve this popular Mexican drink at your next gathering…
Cheers! 🥂
