I enjoy making condiments from scratch. It can be a sauce like Fire Roasted Salsa, Chutney, Mayonnaise, Ketchup, Brown Sauce, and so on as well as a herb blend like Italian Seasoning, Épices Mélangées, Pumpkin Pie Spice, and many more.

Another condiment I like making at home is butter. Making compound butter is so much fun and extremely easy. It’s versatile and really enhances many dishes. It also goes well with vegetables or spread on breads, croissants, etc. It can also be added to a sauce, pasta or rice. I always have a few already made that I keep in my freezer.

I have a list of compound butter recipes like Basil Lemon Butter that I use every time I cook a Turkey. More savory butters I make are Chipotle, Tomato, and Creole using my homemade seasoning. There’s also Tarragon, Chive, Miso, etc.

Compound butter doesn’t have to be limited to savory. It can be on the sweeter side too like Cranberry Butter and Strawberry Butter that both are incredibly delicious spreads on croissants, Scones, etc., or Orange Butter that is amazing on fish as well as on pancakes. Besides these two, I also make Apple, Honey Butter, Peach, Coffee, and so on.

The one I want to highlight today is my Garlic Herb Butter! This is an OMG! It’s a gorgeous mix of fresh herbs like parsley, chives, and rosemary as well as garlic and a lot of it along with freshly squeezed lemon juice which gives a little “je ne sais quoi” to it.

Versatile is understating it when it comes to this butter. I use it for many recipes like my Pull-Apart Garlic Bread, a slice of it on top of some beautiful Grilled Steaks or Chicken Breasts, in the making of my delicious Escargots à la Bourguignonne, in the crust of a pizza, when sautéing some shrimp, vegetables, rice, and the list goes on.

It takes 10 minutes to make and tada… here’s your delicious Garlic Herb Butter! It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 6 days or in the freezer for 3 to 4 months. While many use unsalted butter, I go for the salted because there’s the risk of adding too much or too little plus, although I enjoy my compound butter, I don’t like to taste and adjust if you know what I mean…

Forget the ones at the store and make your own. You’ll be surprised by using fresh ingredients how amazing this Garlic Herb Butter turns any dish into something special! Ridiculously easy to make, enhance your next dinner with this condiment…
Bon Appétit!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
  • 1 tbsp. fresh parsley, finely chopped tips & tricks
  • 1 tbsp. chives, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp. fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • 2 tsp. pressed garlic
  • 1/2 tbsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice tips & tricks

Directions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients; stir until well blended.
  • Scoop the mixture onto the center of some wax paper and gather the sides to compact the butter. Fold one side over and form a log, curling your fingers under to tighten it up. Roll it up to the other side and twist the ends tight. To prevent it from opening, fold the ends under.
  • Chill until it hardens, about 2 hours.
