Are you a football fan? If the answer is “yes’, I don’t need to remind you that the Super Bowl is this coming weekend. Obviously, you already knew that and started planning your house party…

There are a couple of big screen TVs’ around, a betting board in your living room, a cooler (or two) packed with beers on ice, all the hard liquor is out and bottles of red on the kitchen counter breathing while whites are chilling in the wine fridge. You’re prepared and ready to entertain your friends for this important sporting event.

Year after year I’ve posted a few recipes that are perfect for the occasion. Some of them are my Six Layer Chip Dip, Potato Skins, Spicy Beef Nacho Supreme, several kinds of pizza, Creamy Spicy Guacamole, Pumpernickel Spinach Dip, Beef/Pork Chili or Turkey Chili Tex•Mex Style, etc. Now let’s not forget my Baked Chicken Wing recipes along with many great sauces like Mango Chipotle, Triple Chili, Ethiopian, Smoky Buffalo, Teriyaki and more…

Today there’s another fun finger food to add to the list… my Pepper Jack Cheese Sticks! I’m sure many of you have had mozzarella sticks in a pub before. Without reinventing the wheel, the only difference is I’m changing the type of cheese! I personally always found them to be slightly on the boring side but now with Pepper Jack cheese, it’s a different story.

I serve these Pepper Jack Cheese Sticks traditionally just like everyone does… with Marinara Sauce, obviously using my homemade recipe. There are some of you who prefer dipping them in Ranch, Chipotle Mayo, Sweet Chili Sauce or even Blue Cheese Dressing… it’s your call! David likes these with Spicy Red Pepper Jelly

As I said, you are prepared for the event but adding these tasty Pepper Jack Cheese Sticks to your party menu will surely be a… touch down!
Bon Appétit!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 4 large free-run eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 1/2 cups fine breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp. Italian seasoning see Recipe
  • 1 lb. Pepper Jack cheese, cut into 3 1/2 inches long x 1/2-inch square
  • canola oil for frying, as needed tips & tricks

Directions

  • Line a baking sheet with a silicone mat or wax paper; set aside.
  • In a bowl, combine flour and cayenne pepper; whisk to blend. Transfer to a large re-sealable plastic bag and set aside.
  • Prep two shallow bowls; one with beaten eggs and the other one with breadcrumbs. Add Italian seasoning to the breadcrumbs and stir.
  • Working in batches of 6, place cheese sticks in the flour mixture, close the bag and shake to coat.
  • Taking one at a time, dip the cheese stick in eggs and then breadcrumb mixture; repeat once again. Place breaded stick on the prepared baking sheet.
  • When sticks are all coated, transfer them to the freezer for 30 minutes.
