Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/3 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp. ketchup
  • 1/2 tbsp. minced ginger
  • 1 tsp. pressed garlic
  • 1 1/2 tsp. sambal oelek
  • 2 drops red food coloring see Recipe
  • 1 1/2 tbsp. cornstarch (mixed with 1/3 cup cold water)

Directions

  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add water, rice vinegar, granulated sugar, ketchup, minced ginger, pressed garlic, and sambal oelek. Stir until everything is well combined and bring the mixture to a simmer.
  • While it’s warming up, add a couple drops of food coloring. When it starts simmering, cook for 5 minutes.
  • When time is up, add the cornstarch mixture and stir very well until the sauce thickens, about 45 seconds. Remove from the heat and let the sauce cool off before proceeding with your recipe.
