Shrimp Pizza

Colorful and delicious, this Shrimp Pizza recipe is a delight! The combination of ingredients brings a new level of yumminess to pizza night!

Ingredients

BÉCHAMEL SAUCE (adapted for this recipe)

  • 3 tbsp. butter
  • 3 tbsp. unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk, room temperature
  • freshly ground black pepper, to taste (I always use mixed peppercorns)
  • 1 tbsp. fresh chopped dill tips & tricks

PIZZA

  • 2 14-inch pizza doughs Footnote
  • 1 cup red onions, diced
  • 1/2 cup green peppers, diced
  • 1/2 cup red peppers, diced
  • 3 cups Mozarrella cheese, grated and divided tips & tricks
  • lemon zest, to taste
  • 1/2 tsp. hot or smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp. finely chopped parsley, for garnish tips & tricks

SHRIMP MIXTURE

  • 1 tbsp. butter
  • 1/2 tbsp. olive oil tips & tricks
  • 1 lb. large shrimp or prawns, peeled, deveined, patted dry and halved
  • 2 large cloves garlic, pressed
  • 1 tbsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice tips & tricks

Directions

BÉCHAMEL SAUCE

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, add butter. When melted, add flour and whisk constantly for 5 minutes.
  • Whisk in milk; season with pepper and dill. Whisk constantly until the sauce thickens, about 10 minutes.
  • Remove from the heat to allow to cool.

PIZZA

  • Preheat oven to 500ºF.
  • Evenly spread the béchamel sauce on pizza doughs, leaving about 1-inch from the edge.
  • Add red onions and peppers. Divide 1 cup of Mozzarella cheese between the two pies.
  • Transfer to the preheated oven and bake for 8 minutes. Meanwhile make the shrimp mixture…
  • Remove pizza from the oven and evenly place shrimp on top; grate lemon zest over.
  • Divide the remaining 2 cups of cheese between pies and sprinkle on paprika.
  • Transfer to the 500ºF preheated oven and bake for 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
  • Remove from the heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before garnishing with fresh chopped parsley.

SHRIMP MIXTURE

  • In a skillet over medium heat, add butter and oil. When it starts sizzling, add shrimp, garlic and lemon juice. Quickly sauté the ingredients for only 1 minute.
  • Remove from the heat and transfer the mixture to a bowl; set aside.
