Ingredients

  • 1 cup white onions, finely chopped
  • 2 large cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 cups Dr Pepper soda
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp. white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp. chipotle purée tips & tricks
  • 1/2 tsp. liquid smoke
  • 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper, or to taste (I always use mixed peppercorns)

Directions

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, add onions, garlic, and Dr. Pepper. Simmer until the onions are translucent, about 10 minutes.
  • Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until sauce thickens, 30 minutes.
  • Using an immersion blender, process until the mixture is smooth.
  • Allow to cool to room temperature before pouring it into a container and transferring to the fridge for a couple days before using. Makes 2 cups.
