- 1 cup white onions, finely chopped
- 2 large cloves garlic, chopped
- 2 cups Dr Pepper soda
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tbsp. white vinegar
- 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp. chipotle purée tips & tricks
- 1/2 tsp. liquid smoke
- 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper, or to taste (I always use mixed peppercorns)
In a saucepan over medium heat, add onions, garlic, and Dr. Pepper. Simmer until the onions are translucent, about 10 minutes.
Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until sauce thickens, 30 minutes.
Using an immersion blender, process until the mixture is smooth.
Allow to cool to room temperature before pouring it into a container and transferring to the fridge for a couple days before using. Makes 2 cups.
