Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 1 cup white onions, finely diced
  • 1 tsp. ground Himalayan pink salt, divided
  • 3 large cloves garlic, pressed
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup dark molasses tips & tricks
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. yellow mustard
  • 2 tbsp. chili powder
  • 1/2 tbsp. freshly ground black pepper (I always use mixed peppercorns)
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper

Directions

  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter.
  • When it’s starts sizzling, add white onions, season with ground sea salt and cook until softened, about 5 minutes, stirring often.
  • To this, add pressed garlic and quickly sauté for 1 minute.
  • Add the remaining ingredients, stir to blend, increase the heat and bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 30 minutes, stirring frequently.
  • When time is up, remove from the heat and cool completely before transferring to an airtight container. Yields 3 cups.
