In my last review on West Coast Wines from British Columbia, Canada and Washington, United States, this two-part series brings us further south to Oregon and California. As I mentioned in the first two-part series, living on the West Coast could not be a better place for a wine lover. With a great wine growing climate, the West Coast offers a wide variety of grapes with their own distinct regional bouquets and flavors. The selected white wines I’ve chosen for you deliver a luscious tasting experience at an affordable price.

The two most successful grapes grown in Oregon are Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. From the Willamette ErathValley, we have Erath Pinot Gris 2014. On the nose, this wine offers ripe fruit notes, hints of spice and rambutan. Light pale in color, the combination of grapefruit with a touch of lemon, apple and honey pair harmoniously for a silky, buttery finish. This medium-bodied Pinot Gris is well balanced and can be had for $19.50CAD. Because of its smooth texture, I would definitely pair this wine with a beautiful white fish “en papillotte” along with whole roasted carrots and greens or serve it as an appetizer with aged cheese and crudités.

This next wine I discovered while visiting Kauai for my birthday a couple yearsFerrari-Carano ago and wish I had enjoyed its taste way before then is Ferrari-Carano Fumé Blanc 2014, Sauvignon Blanc – Sonoma County. This wine is perfectly balanced and has a beautiful aroma of tropical fruits infused with a touch of lemon and peach on the nose. The experience on the palate is crisp and fresh with melon, lime and a delicate hint of oak on the finish. This Fumé Blanc is a favorite of mine and although extremely enjoyable on its own, I like to pair it with sushi and sashimi. Because of its nice acidity, you might want to try it with a Mexican dish. This lovely wine can be found at around $19.49CAD.

If you have the chance to travel the West Coast, there are plenty of wine regions to satisfy any connoisseur. Although the temperature varies from one area to the next, the climate excels at growing grapes with exceptional results. British Columbia, Washington and Oregon have been making their mark internationally, competing very well with more established & famous vineyards. Keep an eye out for wines from these regions and experience their beauty!

Cheers!
