Club Foody Wine Review – May 3rd, 2017
As most of you know, we escaped from the cold, gray, wet weather here on the Canadian West Coast to the azure blue skies of the Palm Springs area. Each time we visit this beautiful part of Southern California, there is one thing we love to do besides golfing, it’s trying as many Californian wines as possible and let me tell you that the selection is phenomenal! The ones I’ve presented in this review are what Californian wines are supposed to be; artfully created, flavorful and well-balanced with a smooth finish! Here they are…
The white wine I’ve chosen for you today is Mer Soleil Silver Unoaked Chardonnay 2014 – Monterey, California. A rich, full-bodied Chardonnay with aromas of apple, lime, pear, grapefruit and lemon. Pale yellow in color it has flavors of tropical fruit and citrus with a mineral undertone. Crisp acidity and good balance make this wine a great choice for pairing with Caesar salad, chicken cordon bleu (link) or even a nice ceviche. This Chardonnay is also very good on its own! It can be found at your local liquor store for around $28.00.
For our red wine, I’ve selected Marietta Christo Lot Number 3, – North Coast, California. 
A Rhone style blend of Syrah, Petite Sirah, Grenache and Viognier grapes from Marietta Vineyards, this wine was a delectable surprise! Dark red in color with flavors of blackberry, cinnamon, pepper and spice, this blend has an impressive depth of flavor with a smooth, long finish. Full-bodied, rich and well-balanced, you can enjoy this wine with Pork Tenderloin, BBQ chicken or a Rack of Lamb. This beautiful blend can be found at your local liquor store for around $19.00
It is always hard to leave this gorgeous Palm Springs Oasis. This is a great destination for golfers, foodies, and definitely wine enthusiasts! This is a place where people are proud and serious about their Californian wines. It was a tasteful pleasure to discover two great wines from that state! Cheers!
