Vacations are always well-deserved and everyone should enjoy them the way they want. I like to enjoy my vacation by playing golf, shopping, going out for dinner and experiencing new wine sensations. When we were down in the Palm Springs area, we tasted a wide variety of wines; from California and all the way to Europe. Obviously the selections from California were more extensive than the imported wines. Nonetheless, my expectations were exceeded and I was quite happy with the bottles we chose. Here are two amazing wines from Sonoma that I could not resist sharing with you…
Today’s selected white wine is J Vineyards Pinot Gris 2016 – Sonoma, California.
This medium-bodied white is crisp, fresh and light with flavors of pear and pineapple with lime on the nose. This Pinot Gris is light and refreshing with bright acidity and just a bit of sweetness on the finish. With a hint of minerals and good balance, this white pairs perfectly with seared tuna, Sautéed Scallops with Beurre Blanc or a nice tray of mixed charcuterie and cheese. This is also the perfect wine to sip while relaxing on the patio! It can be found at your local liquor store for around $18.00.
Another fabulous Californian red wine from the region of Sonoma is Cannonball Cabernet Sauvignon 2013. This oaky, well balanced red from Cannonball Vineyards has aromas of blackberry, ripe dark cherry and chocolate with a hint of smoke. Full bodied with smooth tannins along with pepper and spice, and an interesting finish of vanilla. Deep red in color, this Cab pairs beautifully with grilled eggplant, T-bone steak, roasted duck and pizza. It is also a nice sipping wine. This attractive red can be found at your local liquor store for around $28.50
The Sonoma region is a dream destination for wine aficionados and the wide variety of grapes makes this region even more interesting. Along with great restaurants that showcase the regions wines, Sonoma is a must visit location while vacationing in the San Francisco area. These wines are just two among an extensive selection of fabulous wines you can find in the area, so the next time you are there, make sure to stop, visit and taste the beautiful wines from the Sonoma region
