February is an interesting month. It can be cold, nasty, mild, tempermental, wet, sunny, windy but luckily it’s the shortest month of the year! For our southern friends, there’s a big party coming up next week and it is Mardi Gras! I promised myself that one day I will be down there celebrating but until then, my imagination keeps me entertained. Talking about imagination, there are a few wines I’ve selected that their titles alone can bring some inspiration…

Janare Falanghina del sannio 2014 - ItalyThe white wine I’ve chosen for you today is Janare Falanghina Del Sannio Vendemmia 2014 Campania – Italy. The Falanghina grape variety is quickly gaining in popularity and it’s not surprising why. This is a rich, vibrant wine with a fruity bouquet. There are notes of citrus, apples, pears and spice. With a long and fragrant finish, this wine pairs well with summer salads, chicken and fish. This wine can be found at your local liquor store for around $18.99.

From the Golden State, I’ve selected Carnivore Cabernet Sauvignon 2014. Dark purple in color with a beautiful aroma of dark Carnivore Cabernet Sauvignoncherry, currant and toasted oak. On the palate, this California wine is quite earthy with notes of blueberry, coffee and mocha, with smooth tannins and a lingering silky finish. This is a wine you want to pair with grilled meats as the title suggests. You can find this wine at your local liquor store for around $14.49

The selected wines I’ve chosen for you are very interesting and I hope you give them a try soon as they are unique in their own way. One has a bubbly hint to it for celebration while the other really gives a different tone of boldness and earthiness. Either one will give you a reason to celebrate Mardi gras! Cheers!
